phpBB is a program primarily designed to compose and manage bulletin boards. It allows users to fully customize and personalize their forums, creating an active community that shares content through an easy-to-use interface.
The program’s main features include an Administration Control Panel, this is the main control that allows users to modify and tweak their site. Such functions within the control panel include managing groups and assigning levels of access to members, removing inactive users, awarding users with ranking levels depending on certain criteria’s (i.e. number of forum posts post, quality of posts etc). Other features include editing the report system, managing users who are banned from the site and configuring settings that affect the boards overall performance.
phpBB’s caching system, combined with cloud hosting, offers quick performance for users. The program’s database caches the most common queries, thus resulting in reduced loading times. It also stores other common site features without having to recompile a template with each new page, resulting in less strain on the sites CPU cycles.
